However, each of the wings for the A380 is 48 metres long, 14 metres wide and weighs 25 tonnes.
For transportation these wings are placed in a jig that itself weighs 100 tonnes, making transport by air impossible.
With the Broughton factories located adjacent to the River Dee and a deep-water port available some 15 miles away at Mostyn, the only method of transportation is to use the river
The Port of Mostyn is now home to the Airbus Wing Transfer facility for the A380.
The Roll on Roll off Berth
Using the Roll on Roll off Berth and a dedicated berth for the airbus barge the "Afon Dyfrdwy", wings for the A380 are transported carefully down the 15 mile journey from the factory at Broughton to the facility at the Port of Mostyn.
Here they are stored until they are loaded on to the Roll on Roll off vessel the “Ville de Bordeaux” using the Linkspan on the Roro Terminal for onward shipment to its final destination, the factory at Toulouse.
