Environment
The Port of Mostyn takes its responsibilities towards the environment and sustainable development very seriously.
Port of Mostyn Environmental Policy Statement
The Dee Estuary and it's Wildlife
Through extensive research, surveys and surveying, the Port has gathered a wealth of data and knowledge about the behaviour of the estuary and its natural processes. The careful analysis and evaluation of this data has helped to determine our decision making process on channel behaviour to minimise our dredging requirements.
Environmental Groups
The Port of Mostyn consults with Regulators including Environment Agency Wales, the Marine Management Organization the Countryside Council for Wales and the Dee Conservancy about its dredging requirements and the consents processes on a regular basis. It also consults with local and national conservation groups such as RSPB, together with other estuary users, mainly inshore fishermen and cocklers.
Monitoring Programmes
To comply with consents issued by the Regulators relating to maintenance of the navigational channels and harbour area, the Port undertakes a wide range of monitoring programmes to identify and
measure any potential impacts its operations may have on the estuary and its wildlife. The results of this monitoring work is recorded in an annual Monitoring Report which is provided to the Regulators.
Current Monitoring Programmes Include:
Channel Hydrographic Surveys - Estuary Transec Surveys -Seabed Level Surveys
Annual Biological surveys of Invertebrates, Cockles Counts and Measuring, Salt Marsh Sediment Sampling and Bird Counts.
